PROFILE OF PROFESSOR ANTHONY JOE TURKSON (PhD)
Anthony Joe Turkson, born on 30th April 1965, joined Takoradi Polytechnic after his Bachelor degree from University of Cape Coast in 1993. He was among the first crop of staff appointed into the Polytechnic after it attained its Tertiary status in 1994.

Anthony Joe Turkson, born on 30th April 1965, joined Takoradi Polytechnic after his Bachelor degree from University of Cape Coast in 1993. He was among the first crop of staff appointed into the Polytechnic after it attained its Tertiary status in 1994. From 1997 to 2000, he pursued a Master of Philosophy Degree in Technical Education at KNUST. He obtained a second Masters in Statistics in 2008, from University of Cape Coast. In 2011, he obtained his PhD (Statistics) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
Professor Turkson has held several academic positions:
- Head of Science Department (2001 – 2003)
- Dean, School of Applied Science (2001 – 2003)
- Dean of Students Affairs (2003-2007)
- Dean of Degree Programmes (2011- 2013)
- Dean of Quality Assurance (2013-2014)
- Dean of School of Applied Science (2014 to date).
He has acted on many occasions as either the Vice Rector or Rector of the Polytechnic. Currently, he is the Senior Dean and Chair of the College of Deans. He demonstrated leadership skills quite early in life: He was a Dining Hall Prefect and Cadet Commander at Nsein Secondary School; he became the President of GHAMSU at the University of Cape Coast. At Takoradi Polytechnic, he served as the local Vice Chairman of POTAG (1998-2000) and the National Vice President (2001-2003). He was also elected the Convocation represent on Council and later elected as the Convocation Chairman of the Polytechnic.
In China, he was elected on two occasions as the President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS–China). He was also the President of the Wuhan Branch of the International Christian Fellowship in China (WICF). He is a dynamic, visionary and an effective leader.
Professor Turkson has served as a facilitator/Resource Person on topics of institutional and national interest. He has served on Countless Committees and Boards as either a member or the chairperson. He has also attended lots of conferences both locally and internationally and has published a good number of articles in national and international Journals. Additionally, he has hosted seminars and has number books to his credit. His research interest is Health Statistics and Biomedicals. He has received awards from both the SRC and POTAG. As a born-again-Christian Evangelist, he owes it a duty to inspire others to a personal faith in God. He oversees the activities of the Tanokrom Methodist Missionary Society in (Takoradi). His hobbies are gardening and music, especially Gospel. His greatest joy comes from helping people to achieve their aims in life.
